help buy valuable equipment for research such as...

£55 Could fund a talented young scientist for a day to carry out fundamental research into the biology of cancer.

£250 Could pay for a -20*C freezer for short-term storage of biological samples. Many chemicals and solutions have to be stored at this temperature in the laboratory to prevent them from going off.

£1000 Could fund 10 women's participation in the UK Collaborative Trial of Ovarian Cancer Screening. This trial is the first of its kind and aims to assess the effectiveness of ovarian cancer screening in saving lives and the feasibility of introducing a national screening programme for this disease.

Cancer Research UK works tirelessly to find ways to prevent, detect and treat cancer.

They are the world's leading organisation dedicated to cancer research and the charity supports research on all aspects of cancer through the work of more than 3000 scientists, doctors and nurses.

They are one of the few organisations with the ability to take discoveries made in the laboratory and turn them into treatments for patients.

More than 1 in 3 people in the UK develop cancer at some point in their lives. Thanks to research, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. But there is much more we need to do.
